I am a writer of everything but prefer dark fiction, horror and fantasy. Even though I'd begun to persue this dream only last year, I've been writing since I can remember. I'm often asked why I chose to be a writer, but more commonly, I'm asked why I write horror. Because of my naturally shy demeanor, others find it hard to believe that I can write darkly spun tales of terror along with the rest of them. Here's the thing: Horror writers are not evil nor are they psychopaths. My personal belief is that we are philosophers, delicately unwinding the "why's" of the world with our stories. This does not mean we condone our character's behavior. Don't miss the forest for the trees. To me, horror is an unfortunate but inescapable part of life. For someone who had been sheltered from the harshness of the world,
| independance and the harsh reality was a rude awakening. My stories may contain graphic language, tasteful gore and a sprinkling of sex but isn't this what happens everyday in the world? It is but a reflection. In my case, the characters at the end are met with justice and see the errors of their ways. Stories of all genres represent the epic struggle of good versus evil. People write for many reasons: escapism, to better understand the world around them, stress relief, seeking attention or, as in my case, some simply feel they have a story to tell. Enough with labels and blame- stories are made to be enjoyed, not analyzed. |
