He held his head over the toilet and gagged, making a sickening splash into the water. Shaking all over, he straightened and noticed one of the bugs on the wall. “What the hell are you looking at?”  It remained unresponsive. It was pointless to talk to them and yet he did. He was sure that they were listening, watching. When he looked closer, he saw that it wasn’t just one fly, but one atop the other.  Their tiny bodies shook ever so slightly, their abdomens connected. For some reason their public display disturbed him. It wasn’t the act itself, he had fantasized about similar non-insect related scenarios but it was their freedom which upset him. They didn’t have to worry about being interrupted, about anyone even noticing them. These creatures went where they pleased without fear, even until the end. The eyes of these things contained such secrets, they’ve watched the affairs of lovers, and perched on the window sills of government meetings… they could do what they pleased and yet remain invisible. Was it better to live a shorter life with freedom than a longer one that ended with bars? He didn’t know...
